The cloves are aromatic flower buds belonging to the family of Myrtaceae. The plant is native to the Maluku Islands in Indonesia, and it is commonly used as a spice. Cloves can grow throughout the year, depending on the different harvest seasons in diverse countries.


The clove plant is an evergreen plant. It grows up to the height of 29ft to 39ft. They have large leaves and crimson flowers that are grouped in terminal clusters. Initially, the flower bud has a pale hue that slowly turns green. Later on, it is the transit to a bright red when ready to harvest. When cloves grow up to 1.5 cm to 2cm long, they are harvested and consist of a long calyx that terminates in four spreading sepals.
