Parent Plant Overview
Ajwain is a herbal annual shrub whose leaves and seed-like fruit (i.e. seeds) are consumed for culinary and medicinal purposes. It is cultivated in India and Iran, and ajwain seeds are common household spice condiments in India. The seeds or plant are also known as ajowan caraway, carom, bishop’s weed, or thymol seeds. The seeds are tiny, oval-shaped, and pale brown with a pungent taste. A few ajwain seeds are sufficient to bring flavor to cuisines. They are also used as wellness ingredients in Ayurveda to treat various disorders.
Ajwain Essential Oil Description
The cultivators harvest ajwain seeds from February to May when flowering stops and seeds start to develop and ripen in umbels. Ajwain essential oil manufacturers collect, clean, and sundry the seeds and extract an orange or brownish thin oil from crushed seeds by steam distillation. It has a bitter, sharp aroma and taste but offers immense healthcare benefits and possesses antiviral, anti-fungal, antibacterial, antiseptic, anti-nausea, and antiseptic properties.
